The most wonderful time of year.....

Christmas tree 2013 is decorated!

I love Christmas time. It's my most favorite time of the year. So, I didn't waste a minute in getting our decorations put up. We were already behind, having spent Thanksgiving weekend in South Africa so by the time we arrived home on December 3rd, I had it all planned out. To be fair, we've been in our house 3 years so of course, I know where everything goes, but I always add a couple new things every year. The first 2 years we lived here we chopped down our own Christmas tree. It was a novelty really coming from Miami where the only Christmas trees are 5 feet tall, cost $90, and purchased in the parking lot of Kmart! But last year, I caved, not wanting to spend an entire afternoon in the rain searching for just the right specimen. So, instead, we bought a beautiful, tall skinny tree that fits perfectly in our "library" and we can enjoy it for as long as we like - no weather permitting!

One of the reasons I love Christmas is that I get to put up all of the Christmas ornaments which tell the story of our lives (both before and since we married.) Here are a few of my favorites:

The first ornament I ever game my sweet JSM (it says 2004.)

JSM's home (Cape Cod) in the shape of Santa.

Noles (#1 although I don't love football!)

My great grandmother made this ornament for my mom. She loved to needlepoint and that's how I remember her.I love that it graces my tree today.

One of my favorite places and close to where we live now.

This one came from Starbucks. We both worked there. If we hadn't, we may have never met (although we didn't meet there....)

Proof we're Democrats and one of us has been to Russia!

Putting the finishing touch on....the Steiff cardinal. Always in honor of JSM's dad, Ed.

In other holiday news, the Battle Ground Community Library hosted a holiday open house yesterday and the Friends of the Battle Ground Community Library hosted a reception in my honor. It was really very sweet considering I'm not off to a great start. First there was the fiasco with the newspaper report and now this:

The Friends newsletter was sent out while I was away with a really nice profile on the front cover. Only problem is, they included a photo of me sitting in front of a WHISKEY BAR at the Allison hotel (which incidentally was pulled off my Facebook page while I was out of town.) Hahaha! Hopefully, none of the patrons noticed! :)

Anyway, the Holiday Open House was a success with lots of children, families, and people enjoying harp music, a children's choir and cookies and cider all while making beautiful snowflakes and paper bag reindeer.

Such a wonderful cake (carrot with cream cheese frosting....)

Part of the beautiful arrangement the Friends brought me.

Sprouting Seeds children's choir

(Giant) Snowflakes!

Celtic Muse harp duo
Still lots to do......parties to attend (3 next weekend!) and presents to buy, but I'm hoping to keep things simple this year: something you want, something you need, something to wear, and something to read. JSM is totally on board with this although he can't seem to remember the order (it rhymes!) I hope it will give us a focus and give us more time to enjoy our most favorite time of year! Happy holidays to you!!
XOXO
