I had a great "weekend" in Seattle with my dear friend PD which really included a Saturday night train ride to Seattle, a very relaxing Sunday with PD and her family, and a Monday morning to myself in the city. I've been traveling to Seattle since my days at Starbucks, but it's much more fun when you're visiting friends! I did enjoy my little trip down memory lane this morning when I was downtown reminiscing about my first visit to the Pacific NW.
Sunday was fabulous - I haven't felt so relaxed in ages. I think it helped that PD took me to her "gym" which wasn't so much a gym as a club for those who work at Microsoft! Of course, Pro Sport Club in Redmond, WA, is open to anyone willing to pay the three figure monthly membership fee, but it is well worth the price since it has a spa, flower shop, "living rooms" complete with a flat screen TV and fireplace, and numerous cardio rooms including one in the dark! I've NEVER spent 3 hours at a gym in my life, but I'd go there just to read a book! I loved spinning in the "cardio theater" and sitting by a fountain with my feet up wearing only a towel! It was bliss....
The day ended watching the sunset over the Puget Sound with a spicy margarita for me and a ginger beer for PD who is expecting a baby in December, and a night at theWestin! It really was heavenly (the bed and the whole weekend!) And I came home to summer! Scroll down and you'll see what I mean......
But first, where does the librarian go when she's on vacation in the city?
Of course!
Seattle Public Library is known for it's outrageous architecture, non-fiction spiral, and automated materials handling abilities. But really, it is a gigantic, beautiful, house of knowledge and pleasure that most libraries aspire to! I think it could possibly house every book ever published! No, not really, but it sure is impressive in it's collection (available copies of Hunger Games? Absolutely!) and a fantastic space to spend some time. It's probably a good thing I don't live in Seattle.....I just might want to move in!

the view from the 10th floor
Lots of books.....
everywhere!
If you look closely....you can see the dewey numbers on the floor and the ever-so-slight slope downwards as it winds its way down the dewey decimal system to the 6th floor.
PD and I at Ray's on Puget Sound
Beautiful sunset over Puget Sound! Ray's was giving out blankets....in July! It was chilly as the sun went down. Reason #205 why I love the Pacific NW!

I don't go to Seattle without a stop at my favorite cupcake shop. Sadly, they were out of Chocolate Salted Caramel cupcakes, but the Blueberry Brown Betty was a delicious substitute!
And when I got home it was summer! I know it's summer because Half Moon Farm finally has dahlias for sale at the end of the driveway! It's a good thing since our dahlias aren't doing so well this year. Each handcrafted bouquet is $5 (on the honor system!) How charming.....I love summer!
