Rain, rain......go away!

The beautiful summer weather we had during the second week of May turned back to regular scheduled programming as quickly as it arrived. So, no planting last weekend, but the truth is we didn't have time for it anyway.....we were too busy helping out at the church bunco party to benefit the Vancouver UCC's youth trip to Indianapolis. We were up early last Sunday to cook 20 Papa Murphy's pizzas for the congregation and a couple gluten free pizzas made by Papa McNally! They were delicious! This was my first time playing bunco and I won a prize for the final bunco of the game!

JSM won homemade glycerin soap at the church raffle....how cute! He loved it, but it reminded him of the soap business he's always wanted to start!

So, it wasn't until this weekend (the final one of May) that we finally got some planting done. We took a little field trip this morning with our friends JH and JK to the home of JH's sister in Portland. We went over there to see her chickens to see what we could learn before our ladies arrive. We came home with calendula for our garden! Apparently, calendula attracts lots of bees so it will be a great addition to our garden this year. So, far everything we've purchased has been planted, but it's a two day weekend for us and there's still lots of room. Tomorrow is another day......with little chance of rain!

JSM plants trees, too! This Myrtle Cypress is dwarfed in comparison to the rest of the trees in the yard....

Our progress so far....

I love dahlias!

JSM loves evergreens! Case in point, this juniper on the back patio.
