....and I made it through my first week of work! First things first, I am so proud of my sweet JSM, who is a wonderful man. He is wonderful in my eyes because he is kind and thoughtful, generous and strong, but also because he is a passionate liberal. Often others do not agree with him, but he is always convicted in what he believes and that I admire. He changed the way I viewed the world and I am so grateful. Now that we live in the suburbs of Portland, OR, he is finally at home in a place where he can speak up and people actually listen. Little did I know he has been regularly leaving messages for our local Republican Congresswoman, Jaime Herrera-Beutler, who sadly, isn't listening and has yet to return his calls. I guess he decided to take a more public approach and wrote an opinion letter to our local paper, The Columbian. And guess what? They listened and published his letter! I am so proud of him! Here is the article.....
On a separate, but kind of similar note, I completed my first week of work as a full time librarian at the Vancouver Community Library in downtown Vancouver. I say "kind of similar" because some consider the profession of librarian to be liberal since librarians are obligated to provide patrons with whatever information they request regardless of what that information is, how old the patron is, or what our personal beliefs are. I don't consider my job to be political on any level, but rather I am a conduit for all members of the community to have equal access to information. In fact, I love being out on the floor, interacting with the public, and helping people find the books and information they are looking for. It is always fun, sometimes funny, and often challenging, but I am thrilled to be serving my local community! For the first time ever I leave work with a smile on my face and that is something I wish for everyone no matter what side of the aisle they are on.
