I'm Back!

After a little computer problem I am pleased to announce I'm back. I know I wasn't gone for long, but since I couldn't upload any pictures my blogging came to a screeching halt last week. Who wants to just read a bunch of words? Who really cares? Blogs are much more fun with photos! Thankfully, JSM, who knows very little about computers, suggested I just re-boot the computer. Why didn't I think of that? And so, here I am....

The last 10 days have been pretty busy for us getting Phil adjusted to his new lifestyle. A couple weeks ago he was diagnosed with diabetes and we have been busy shuttling him to the vet, checking his blood sugar, administering 2 shots a day, and starting a new diet. Let's just say he's catching on to us and things are getting a little more difficult, but he is a great sport and adjusting better than I am to his new regimen. It isn't easy to give him a shot twice a day. First, I have to work up the nerve and then there's usually a little game, since he doesn't like being pinched near his tail and then he tries to walk away, and we go round and round until I just do it! Before long, hopefully, it will feel like second nature. JSM is a champ when he gives the nightly shot and is done within seconds. If only I had his courage! We will see today if the insulin is working or needs to be adjusted.

Since we can't travel for a couple months (while we get Phil under control) we are trying to take advantage of things to do around Vancouver. Last weekend we went to the Farmer's Market in downtown Vancouver, which has fabulous (and local) everything - tomatoes, honey, flowers, lamb!  Even though it's June and the weather is still cool and rainy the NW is abundant with beautiful flowers! This bouquet was ridiculous!

We've also been tending the garden, sprucing up the back deck, and watching all the fireworks tents pop up around town. This is a big business in Washington where you can't buy fireworks before July 1st and you must use them by July 4th. So, vendors are setting up shop on every corner to sell fireworks before the deadline expires. It's kind of funny to see so many circus tents around town, complete with red and white stripes on the roofs! Only there aren't animals in these tents unless you consider the King Cobra (the kind with 2 rockets) something fun to play with.  This weekend we are headed to the Vancouver Rodeo. Yes, it's true. You know you live on the Prairie when there is an annual rodeo a few miles from your house! And, I will be posting photos so stay tuned!
