I'm A Librarian.....Sort Of!

The bad news is I didn't get the job.....Instead, I got a wonderful opportunity to be a substitute librarian at the Fort Vancouver Regional Library! I am thrilled! Of course, I would have loved to be a real librarian, but since I have no experience this job will provide me all the experience I want without committing to a 40 hour work week. For those of you who don't know.....I received a masters degree in Library Science last summer and volunteered at FVRL last year. I had my first library interview (ever!) about three weeks ago and it was a fantastic experience if a bit awkward since I was interviewed by four librarians who already knew me! I didn't expect to get the Librarian II position I interviewed for, but I am honored to be a substitute at the new library opening in downtown Vancouver this summer. Sweet.....I will still have time for domestic adventures, gardening, lunching, book reading, beekeeping, and traveling with my sweet JSM all while I gain valuable work experience. What more could I ask for? I am blessed indeed.

We've had a busy couple of weeks, but we carved out a little time for fun! First off we went to the Rose Garden for the Trail Blazer's final game of the season. We were kindly offered a couple seats in a skybox which we thoroughly enjoyed. I don't really like sports, but I do love attending live sporting events, and even though Portland lost this was no exception.

The view is always better from the skybox!

Three days later we were back at The Rose Garden. This time the basketball court was converted into an ice rink and we watched the Portland Winterhawks beat Spokane.

 Go Winterhawks!

We love hockey....
We also spent a little time in the yard, when it wasn't raining, which lately means we've barely spent any time out there at all. I take that back....rather, I haven't spent a lot of time out there since I don't work in the rain, but that doesn't stop Olmstead, I mean, JSM. Thankfully, it's light out until 8:30 these days and he works in the yard after work and yes, in the rain! Even though our yard won't resemble Central Park JSM treats the yard as if it is and for that I am thankful. We did have someone come and level off the backyard so there aren't any more puddles, but for the time being the back yard is a mud pit!

We had 35 Arborvitae trees delivered this week to be planted on Friday. They will border this area along the back and side of our yard. I can't wait! We will have a natural fence with plenty of privacy and room for deer to roam (which for the record I have yet to see in our backyard.) Next up is seeding the entire backyard and building our raised bed gardens which we will complete this month. Then, we can plant. Here in the PNW planting is not advised until the snow has melted in the foothills and considering we can still see snow and Mt. St. Helens got 19 feet in the last 3 weeks we still have some time. It can't get here fast enough though - I'm ready to experience some warm weather, wear dresses, pick flowers, harvest vegetables, and start my new job!
