What a beautiful start to the new year we've had! Blue skies for the last three days which is amazing for this time of year. It has been freezing.....no warmer than 36 degrees which is unusually cold, but I couldn't resist the glimpse of blue skies as seen through the trees in our backyard on such a clear day. This part of the country is definitely gray for most of the year, so the days that are beautiful are BEAUTIFUL and we take advantage even if it means doing yard work which is how we spent our afternoon.
We rang in the new year at the Portland Winterhawks hockey game. We love hockey and a friend who is a season ticket holder gave us the tickets and the seats were great! It really felt like we were going to get hit in the face with a flying puck, but the view of the game was fantastic. We even saw a couple fights break out (of course!) but we also were there for a "hat trick", the rare event when one of the players scores three goals. They stop the game and black hats fall from the ceiling for the fans to throw on the ice. What fun!
We had a busy holiday season (hence no blog posts from me!) I was busy painting the brick fireplace white, baking, crafting, wrapping and decorating. We chopped down our own Christmas tree about 2 miles from the house which was an adventure and chose the tallest tree we could find at the farm. Unfortunately, when we got home we realized our tree was 4 feet too short - next year we're going for a 12 footer! I made a wreath out of the Christmas cards we received this year (thanks to all of our wonderful friends and family!) and I baked lots of treats. We enjoyed a mostly quiet holiday in front of the fire, missing our families, but grateful for not traveling this year.
Best wishes to you all for a happy and healthy 2011!
