So much to be thankful for! We started off the week with the first snowfall of the year which actually was just a little dusting, but lots of fun. Contrary to popular belief the northwest doesn't get that much snow so a little storm this early in the year is really unexpected. We hope this means we will have a white Christmas :) Since the snow fell on a Sunday afternoon it was wonderful to be able to relax and enjoy it. We have so much coverage from the cedars in our front yard that only a portion of the yard got any snow!
Since we didn't go east for Thanksgiving this year we did the next best thing and had a "staycation" at The Nines in downtown Portland. I love living in the country, but I am still a city girl at heart and a couple nights downtown are a real treat! The hotel was conveniently located on top of Macy's so we could roll out of bed on black Friday and score some great deals. Unfortunately, we slept in and missed the 4 am open time, but we were still able to enjoy some pre-Christmas holiday excitement and a prime spot for the lighting of Portland's Christmas tree in Pioneer Square which, thankfully, turned out beautifully! We woke up this morning to the news of the thwarted fake bomb attack on Pioneer Square - what a shock and a relief all at the same time! On the bright side the hotel had a great little library and lounge and we did get a glimpse of the Duke basketball team who was also staying at the same place. Although we missed seeing our families on Thanksgiving we are thankful for the opportunity to be a tourist in our own city and the first holiday season in our own home.
