Merry Cutco!

My Christmas arrived today! I am so excited. I've been wanting this gift for YEARS. And for good reason. I just recently nicked my fingernail, but a couple months ago I almost sliced off my entire index finger! The reason? DULL knives. In fact, knives so dull, the built-in sharpener couldn't even sharpen them! (OK, so maybe it had more to do with the fact that I cut and slice with abandon: knife lifted, fingers exposed and arms flailing. But I would never admit that. I mean who would buy that person new knives??)

I fell in love with Cutco years ago when I was at a friend's house and she had one single knife. I was drawn in by the story: since 1949, only sold through direct sale, lifetime warranty with replacement, and annual servicing free of charge. I say servicing because it's more than just having someone come to your HOUSE to sharpen your knives, they will also replace any worn utensils. The knife itself cut like butter, so smooth and easy it wasn't really like cutting at all. I usually had to work to get my knives to slice through an avocado for crying out loud! But the Cutco knife did all the work for me and I had a revelation. Chopping can be fun, and easy......and satisfying? Yes, yes, and yes! Unfortunately, it took me years to finally get my own set (thank you, thank you, JSM!) but it was well worth the wait. The only prerequisite? A knife skills class because these knives could actually, really, seriously hurt me. In the meantime, I've sliced a tomato and it was pure bliss....I promise to slice more, dice more, and chop more now that I have this beautiful workhorse of a set.

I love that this set is called the "Homemaker Set". How charming! If only....

That's no joke.

Beautiful and extremely useful all in a pearl handle.

Here's to more veggies, fruit, and salsa in 2014. And if I'm feeling really courageous maybe I'll use this butcher knife. Yikes!!!
XOXO
