Writing letters is a lost art these days. So many of the sentiments sent out during the holidays are typed or printed on the back of the card (mine included) so it's a special treat to get a handwritten letter. These days, I correspond with both my father's aunt (my great aunt Margaret) and my godmother, both in their 90's. I love their perspective even if the cards have a tinge of sadness as of late. My godmother can't see as well so the handwritten portion of her card this year was short and sweet: Hope all's well with you. May 2014 be ever so good to you! My great aunt wrote a full letter in her slanted hand, but it was peppered with talk of blurred vision and loss of family members. Life isn't easy even if you are blessed to live well into your 90's. But regardless of the news they share I love that they took the time to sit down and pen a letter. Handwritten notes are one of life's greatest pleasures. They not only allow the writer a moment to sit down, pen in hand, and reflect, but they also let the receiver know someone spent some time thinking of them. It takes a bit more time to compose sentences in perfect script, hand address an envelope, and place the stamp (oh and stop by the post office!) than it does to hit send. But then, stationary, pens, and handwriting are some of my favorite things. I'd like to spend more time with my favorite things in 2014 and let my friends near and far know that I am thinking of them....In the meantime, I will enjoy these cards (no sadness, I promise!) for months to come.
My "wreath" of holiday cards which I enjoy until February.
May 2014 be ever so good to you!!
XOXO
