Late February and early March were busy for us (shocking, I know!) But it was actually filled with fun - yay! My old friend, HRBC and her husband KC, stopped by to see us on their way home from a ski trip on Mount Hood. What a wonderful evening we had with them full of great food, fantastic conversation, and few extra dirty martinis!

HRBC and I. Can't wait to see you all again!
More eggs are arriving everyday courtesy of the "ladies" in our backyard: Frances, Dorothy, and
Betty White. As we learned this year, no eggs in winter, but slowly production has increased over the last few weeks. With the time change, we'll be giving away eggs in no time!
Supper Club!
A plate at supper club
The first weekend in March we attended our sort-of regular supper club. Supper club involves about 13 people who get together every other month or so for a themed dinner party hosted at a different home each time. Each person brings a dish and we all get to share! There are 2 chefs and quite a few accomplished home cooks in our group so the food is always good, but the company is the best! March was "bring a dish with your intials" month. This was one of the best events yet food-wise because it was just a free for all served buffet style and there were lots of choices and plenty of drinks!
My dish, lovingly prepared by my sweet JSM since I worked that day: Kicked-up corn Maque choux (a spicy creole corn dish)
Chicken and Dumplings
Cassoulet
JSM's Jumbalaya which was fantastic!! It's definitely going on the rotation at this house. JSM has really become quite a chef around here. I'be been dethroned as the queen of cooking - JSM just might be the king!
I spotted a dear in the neighbors yard first thing in the morning!
The master bedroom redecoration is under way! I am thrilled about this since we've been talking about it for a year, but we just haven't had the time or motivation to actually get it done. We've been living with ugly sconces, a dark closet, shiny paint, and barely a window covering for almost 3 years, but I've been indecisive about the direction I want to go.
With a little inspiration from Meghan Carter's book, The Meghan Method, which I just happened to spot on the shelf at the library, I have a plan with specific things I want from our master bedroom. I wish for a dark, cozy place to sleep, a place to put up our feet, and organization in the closet. The Meghan Method is a wonderful text that walks you through all kinds of considerations for your personal space: what do you love, what view do you dislike, how you want to feel in your room, what do you want to do in your room, what kind of lighting do you need, what are your favorite shapes? She explains style and suggests how to find a muse. She even includes instruction on how to draw your own plans! I draw the line at being my own architect (although I kind of want to see if I could draw on graph paper - how hard could it be?) but I will pretend to be an interior designer for the next few weeks. What fun!
Choices, choices
We'll be keeping all of our furniture, but we are having a plantation shutter installed on the sliding glass door and new paint on the walls. Stay tuned for photos in an upcoming post! In the meantime, I rearranged some furniture in the house and created a reading nook in our bedroom. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to sit there and read because someone (I won't mention any names) has taken my seat! He's just so darn cute.
You know who sitting you know where :)
Hockey season is off to a great start - 2 wins and a loss so far! JSM usually plays year-round, but he took a short break in February. There was a time where I wanted to use his hockey sticks as kindling for a fire for his golf clubs because we weren't getting enough time together, but the truth is I am so glad he has those hobbies and he's good at both of them. I'm really proud of him for taking part in a team sport at this time in his life. Skating is hard, but he does his best every week and always comes home exhausted right before the work week starts. Life gets busy for everyone and it's time for an attitude change on my part. I will do my best to attend more games instead of complaining about them and I will gladly go to work on Saturdays so JSM has time for golf! It kind of works out for both of us....
Defense!
Such a great hockey player!
