OK, so they aren't BRAND new....they've been in my closet since January 1, but they are my new favorite shoes now that I know my beloved ballet flats are doing more harm than good. A trip to the doctor this week confirmed that I need to be taking good care of my feet. When I mentioned some heel pain the doctor took one look at my leopard print ballet flats and said, "Do you wear those shoes everyday?" Of course I don't wear the same pair of shoes everyday, but I have a closet full of flats - everything from a pair of patent leather Tory Burch ones to a pair from Payless in a hounds tooth print. I love flats! "No,no,no,no,no", Dr. W. said, "You need a pair of sensible shoes!" I didn't have the heart to tell her JSM had been telling me that for years! On our first Valentines Day together I got a pair of "sensible shoes" from Neiman Marcus. In hindsight it was a very romantic gesture and I loved those shoes for years. Even he wasn't fooled by the flip flops I had been wearing to work! So, I left Dr. W's office with a "prescription" to buy new shoes, but instead of going to the store, I headed home to my closet to pull out that pair of patent leather clogs JSM bought me on New Years Day.
Reason #225 why I love Portland? Dansko clogs!! In the pacific northwest women of all ages wear clogs and there is no shame in wearing supportive shoes that keep your feet out of the puddles! In fact, the best thing about Portland is you can wear what you want, be who you are or pretend to be who you wish you were because NOBODY CARES! So, I am going to wear my clogs with pride knowing that I am taking good care of my feet. And I will carry a matching patent leather handbag because that's totally me!
