I'm a self-proclaimed NPR junkie and lover of public television. I start my day with Morning Edition and end it with Frontline, NOVAMasterpiece Theater, or whatever else happens to be on my local PBS station. In fact it's one of a few channels JSM and I always agree on! In between I listen to Fresh Air, All Things Considered, and BBC World Service. I love to work with JSM to solve the Weekend Edition Sunday Puzzle and who can resist Click and Clack, the Car Talk brothers?  Whatever my mood public broadcasting offers something to interest, educate, and entertain.

That's why I'm a member of OPB.

Now, it appears that funding for public broadcasting could be in jeopardy. Perhaps because we are in a recession or because our national debt is so high, Congress is proposing to cut federal funding to support public broadcasting. Millions of people tune into public radio and television everyday. In many rural areas (including parts of Oregon and Washington) public broadcasting is the only free television available. While most public broadcasting stations rely on a small amount of government funding, it is this money that makes it possible to purchase programming. If you listen to NPR, love PBS, or your children watch Sesame Street consider contacting your congress person to let them know you support public programming. Maybe you will consider becoming a member of your local station? I know I'll be renewing my membership! For more information visit 170 Million Americans.
